Hi everyone and welcome! First of all, I want to thank you for reading my blog. My name is Cheryl Bougie and I’m so glad that you found me. Today, I want to show you how you can reset your day in just 60 seconds.
A Series of Unfortunate Events!
Have you ever had a series of unfortunate events occur, maybe first thing in the morning, where one thing after the other happens and your day just goes from bad to worse? Or maybe you have been working on a project at work and you cannot focus. You find that you are all over the place but you really need to get this project done. Maybe you got into a fight with your friend, your spouse, your coworker, your kid, or you had a bad drop-off, or a flat tire on the way to work. Whatever the reason is, and let’s face it there can be many, you can reset your day. That’s right, you do not have to let it spiral out of control and make your day go from bad to worse. A lot of times when a catastrophe occurs, we are thrown off for the rest of the day and it really makes us feel like everything is going wrong. I want to show you how to stop that cycle.
Introducing...Me!
Before I get into all that, let me introduce myself. My name is Cheryl Bougie and I am a South Florida native. I am a 50-year-old mom of two teenage boys, Lord help me, with celiac disease. We are a gluten-free household here and I love to help moms learn to live more, and stress less, in their everyday lives. We have enough pressure on us as moms and as women, that we don't need to put more pressure on ourselves. I want to help you and show you shortcuts to lots of things so that you can enjoy your time - every single day.

Look! Squirrel!
Let me tell you why you might want to do the 60-second reset. There are a lot of different reasons - a few of which I covered at the beginning. One of my reasons is the squirrel syndrome. You all know what I’m talking about. Maybe you are a mom and you start cleaning your house, then you go to clean out a drawer, then maybe fold laundry. All of a sudden you have 10 projects started but none completed. It's the plight of stay-at-home moms everywhere. Maybe you’re trying to work on a project and you cannot focus to get it done. Maybe you're doing a school project. Maybe you're trying to do things with your kids. Squirrel syndrome, where we are not always as focused as we want to be, is real. The 60 second reset can help you with that.
Who? Me? But I'm not Good Enough!
We need to notice and acknowledge the negative self-talk that we tell ourselves. A lot of times we tell ourselves we're not good enough, we're not pretty enough, we don't know how to do this, we can't do that. When you stop and reset your brain, you notice that negative self-talk. Those are limiting beliefs. It’s not real you guys. A lot of times we just accept it because we're doing other stuff and that chatter is going on in the background.
When you stop and reset and hear that negative self-talk, you have the opportunity to say:
NO! - I CAN do this.
I AM capable.
I AM smart.
I AM beautiful.
I AM successful.
Whatever it is that you need to say to yourself, you deserve to say to yourself.
Calling Ground Control
This also gives you a chance to be more intentional - to ground yourself. This is another big one for me because I am all over the place at 90 miles an hour. Sometimes, I'm not being intentional with my time. This is really great for moms of little ones because they're always doing a million things. When you're sitting down trying to play with them or you're at a mommy-and-me play date or you're at the park or whatever, we're not always being our most intentional. We're too busy thinking about the other things that have to get done. This helps you to stop and ground yourself so that you can be present. You can enjoy that time with your child. You can enjoy that lunch with your ladies and not think about the 20 projects sitting on your desk when you get back to work. Whatever it might be! It really helps you be present in the moment and be more intentional.
Please Check in at the Front Desk
It helps you to check in with yourself. Do you ever notice sometimes when you're at your desk or you're doing stuff with your kids and your shoulders are up or your jaw is clenched or you're stiff? Maybe you're thirsty. When's the last time you actually had a sip of water? You need to go get a drink of water girl. Maybe you're hungry, you skipped lunch, or you just had a few bites of your breakfast and had to run. You are so busy that you don't notice that you're hungry or you're thirsty or you need to stretch or you need to put your shoulders back and down. You need to check in with yourself every once in a while and this is a great way to do that - to make sure you're taking care of yourself.
Joy! Where are you?
Lastly, it is a great way to find gratitude and bring yourself more joy every day. Life is hard. It's not always easy. But you need to take the time to reset yourself. You can do this practice, along with the gratitude practice and find things to be grateful for. If you focus on the things that you're grateful for, you won't think about the things that you don't like that are happening or that you don't want. You'll be focusing on the things that you do want and that you are grateful that you already have. When you focus on gratitude, you have more joy in your life. It just automatically brings more joy because you can't be grateful and angry at the same time.
Can I push the Reset Button Please?
Okay, so now I'm going to tell you how to do this. This is really simple, but you will maybe have to start off slower. If you do breathing exercises regularly, if you do any type of meditation, if you do yoga, this might be easier for you. But if you don't and if this is your first time doing any type of breathing exercise, you might have to work up to it.
I call it breathing in a box. This is the concept.
Breathe in for five seconds.
Hold it for five seconds.
Breathe out for five seconds.
Hold it for five seconds.
That's 20 seconds right there.
You're going to continue that cycle three times until you get to one minute.
Now, like I said, this might be difficult for some of you. You might not be able to breathe in for five full seconds and hold it for five full seconds.
If this is your first time doing breathing exercises, start with three. Breathe in for three seconds, hold it for three seconds, out for three seconds, hold it for three seconds and then keep going.
You'd have to do 10 to get to ... I don't know... Wait three, six, nine, 12. You guys, math is not my strong point, but you don't have to do it exactly for one minute either.
You do a few cycles until you start to feel relaxation. You can, like I said, work your way up to it. You can do it for longer than a minute or just once. Whatever you need. Maybe you need to do this little breathing exercise before you reply to an email that you are really angry about. Whatever it might be, you'll find this helpful in so many different situations.
That's how you reset your day in 60 seconds!
I hope you found this reset your day technique helpful.
If you did, I'd love to hear from you.
If you know somebody that you think would benefit from this, please feel free to share my blog.
Have a great day!
