5 Breakfasts to Grab on the Go

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog! I'm Cheryl Bougie and I am so glad that you are here. Today, I'm going to share with you five breakfast ideas that can get you out the door super fast in the morning. They take less than 10 minutes. Actually, most of them take less than five! I don't know about you, but for me, the morning struggle is real.

To get everybody ready, out the door and to school on time is soooo hard, and yet, I want them to eat a healthy breakfast. But who has the time to cook a whole big breakfast and still get out the door on time? I sure don’t. Whether you have children like mine, who actually don't want to eat breakfast because they aren’t hungry or are just really picky, or if time is your enemy, this blog post is for you!

I think that these ideas are going to check all of those boxes for you and give you some ideas of things that you can make quickly. Some of these you can make ahead of time to get you out the door really fast but still have something nutritious in your belly, and in your kids bellies, to keep you all going until lunchtime.

Okay, so if you have not met me before, I'm Cheryl Bougie - a wife, a mom, and a South Florida native. I am the mom of two teenage gluten-free boys, and I like to help moms live more and stress less, and one of the most stressful times of the day for me is…you guessed it - morning.

So on with my ideas.

5 Breakfast Foods to Grab on the Go!

Did You Say Parlais? No, Parfait!

The first breakfast idea is a yogurt parfait. We all know that yogurt is pretty healthy. It's got probiotics in it, a little protein, it's filling and helps hold you over until lunchtime. The problem with many brands is that they are full of sugar. But don’t worry! I have a great idea for you to be able to control the amount of sugar in the yogurt and make it more fun.

A lot of kids do not love yogurt - so let’s dress it up. Make the parfait in a mason jar or in a fancy cup which might help your children want to eat it more. You can use flavored yogurt, but that’s where that pesky sugar is hiding. If you use plain Greek yogurt, you can control the amount of sugar.

Pinterest has so many recipes to choose from.

I like to start with plain yogurt and then layer it with fruit, nut butters, jam or jelly, maple syrup, a little bit of honey, granola - the list really is endless!

Make several layers in a mason jar, put a spoon in it, give it to the kids and they can eat it in the car on the way. Choose their favorite foods, look up different kid friendly recipes, experiment with different ingredients - have fun with it.

You now have a delicious breakfast where you are in control of the amount of sugar added. Plus your kids are getting nutrition through fruits, nut butters and so forth all mixed into a healthy yogurt snack.

My Day is Going Smoothie

My second breakfast idea is a smoothie. Almost all kids like a smoothie - you just have to find the right recipes. Again, there are millions out there. I find a lot on Pinterest.

My go to is a healthy green smoothie for myself and a chocolate peanut butter protein packed smoothie for my kids.

You can add tons of fruits or vegetables which make these super healthy. Toss in a handful of spinach to any smoothie and the kids won’t even know it's in there. You can add your favorite protein powder for extra nutrition as well. This is such an easy quick thing to drink on the go and it’s packed full of nutritional goodness to get your day started on the right foot.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia...Pudding!

My third idea is actually an either or - chia pudding or overnight oats. Now this idea takes a little bit of prep. I usually do it on the weekend like a Saturday or Sunday. I'll make 5 or 10 because I have 2 kids and that will get them through the week.

You can make chia seed pudding or overnight oats and put them in mason jars.

In the morning, you just have to grab one, put some toppings on it, put a spoon in and go. There are so many delicious chia seed pudding and overnight oats recipes. I love them and my kids go crazy for them too. They're very, very healthy for you. They taste great. Almost every kid loves them because they look really cool. Kids are more inclined to eat something that looks fun.

Without You I'd Be Toast

My fourth suggestion is actually a breakfast sandwich. And you're like, "Cheryl, I said I didn't have time to make breakfast. What are you talking about?"

On the weekend I'll make some breakfast meat, whether it be bacon, sausage patties, or ham, and I keep some to make sandwiches during the week.

If you don’t cook breakfast meats on the weekend, you can even use deli ham or deli turkey on these.

You can make your sandwiches one of two ways.

  1. You can make scrambled eggs with cheese in a little pan or you can throw the scrambled eggs with cheese in a pan and put a piece of meat on it. This can all be done in the time it takes to toast some bread. Voila, you're done.

  2. You can use my favorite invention - a little breakfast sandwich maker. I got mine on Amazon but I’ve also seen them at places like Target. English muffins work best in these but you can use bread if you want. You can put this all together and let the sandwich cook while you are getting ready, packing a lunch, helping your kids get dressed - this thing does the work for you. You just put all the pieces in there, let it cook and out the door you go - it really is a cool invention. Now it takes about five minutes for each sandwich so if you have 2 or 3 kids, that's going to take 10 or 15 minutes. But the good news is, again, it cooks while you're doing other things. You don't have to watch it.

You are the Apple of My Eye

My fifth and final idea is fruit. Yes we all know that fruit is a great option. A lot of people shove a banana in their kid's face on the way out the door, and guess what? That's a great thing. Maybe they grab an apple on the way out of the door. These things you know, but I'm going to take it one step further.

Slice an apple, we like to use green apples, but you can use any kind of apple and slap your favorite nut butter on there. You could use sunflower seed butter, peanut butter, or any nut butter that your heart desires.

Whatever your preference is or what meets your dietary restrictions.

Just slice some apples, put some nut butter on there and sprinkle cinnamon on top. (Kid Approved!)

It just adds that extra step to make it super, super delicious. Kids really love these things. Who am I kidding, I love these things! And you can put them on a plate or in a bowl and they can eat them on the way to school.
